La Patasola

Patasola is yet another female demon from South America, a vampiric creature whose name translates to "one leg." It is said that this monster makes its home in the jungle and appears as a beautiful and seductive woman to men (hunters, loggers, etc.) who are thinking about sex. After luring them into her realm, she reveals her true terrifying face and, thirsty for human blood and flesh, devours her victim.

Also called La Tunda (Colombia and other regions), La Patasola also spends her time in the mountains and various other wild areas, rarely trodden by man. Often she does not show herself directly, but first tries to lead travelers astray by blocking the loggers' paths in the forest or luring hunters' hounds onto false scents. Although characterized as being ruthless with her victims, Patasola is generally viewed as a protector of nature who only attacks those who trespass on her domain.
Despite having only one leg, the monster can move quite easily and can be very agile in the dense jungle where she dwells. Patasola is also described as having a single breast, large bulging eyes, a hooked nose, thick lips, and sharp feline-like fangs, and her hair is usually wild and disheveled. In addition to her appearance as an attractive young woman, this demon can also change her shape into various animals, such as a large black dog or a black cow.

The Legend of Patasola

The exact origin of the La Patasola myth is unknown as there are many variations, but most describe her as having been—while she was alive—an adulterous woman or one of easy virtue. Thus it is said she seduced both men and women, and was so heartless that eventually the people of her village cut off one of her legs, which they then threw into a fire.
In another legend, Patasola was a mother who killed her child just to be accepted by the man she loved. She was then banished into the wild as punishment.
There are also stories according to which she cheated on her husband with his boss, and when he found out, he killed them both. However, all legends have in common that the woman who was to become Patasola was mutilated, having her leg amputated near the hip.
Those who do not believe in the existence of this demon claim that the myth was created and spread in the folklore of the region's peoples to prevent men from being seduced by women and to introduce certain norms of sexual conduct, especially among the lower classes. Thus it is said that if a man plans to have an extra-marital relationship with a woman and La Patasola is nearby, he will end up devoured by her in the most bestial way possible.
